To prevent accounts that are “hacked” due to weak passwords or other poor practices around password security, we have written up a few key points.

Use strong passwords

A strong password consists of at least eight characters (and the more characters, the stronger the password) that are a combination of letters, numbers and symbols (@, #, $, %, etc.) Passwords are typically case-sensitive, so a strong password contains letters in both uppercase and lowercase.

Sharing Your Password

DO NOT share your password with people. No matter how strong your password is, if someone else knows it, it’s no longer a “secure” password. We see folks writing they had a “co-owner” on their account (which is against site rules) and after a disagreement, the co-owner locked them out of the account. We will not be recovering the account for you.

Dictionary (Pass)words

DO NOT use a word that can be found in the dictionary as your password (and don’t use 123456, either!). If you want or need help managing passwords, check out 1Password or lastpass; both are robust password management systems that will generate and store passwords for you.

Family/Friends/Pet Names

DO NOT use your significant other’s name, your child’s name (if you have one), your best friend's name, your pet's name or your car model etc.

Check the Address Bar

DO NOT type your username and password into sites that you’ve arrived at via random links! Double-check that address bar to make sure that you’re really at gay-torrents.org, and if in doubt, type the address into the address bar directly. Phishing websites will often look just like the Gay-torrents login page, but will actually be a website that is not Gay-Torrents.Org.

Here are some examples of URLs that are NOT gay-torrents.org pages:

  • https://gay-torrents.org.example.com
If you think you may have been phished/hacked, change your password as soon as possible and contact us on email (info@gay-torrents.org).

Same Password on Multiple Sites

DO NOT use the same password on multiple sites. Many other filesharing sites keep their passwords in plaintext (worst case) or they may even be unsalted (unencrypted). One compromise can lead to many others. We again recommend using a password manager such as LastPass or 1Password.

Skeleton Key

REMEMBER: “skeleton key” passwords, where part of your password stays consistent across multiple sites and a part changes based on the specific site, can be broken if someone determines what the key and pattern is. Then, suddenly, all of your passwords are broken and you’re left sobbing and wondering why you didn’t use different passwords at each site.

We Won't Contact You Asking for your Password

We will NEVER email you or private message you asking for your password, nor will we ever ask you to download something or sign in to other websites. Never open an attachment or install any software from an email that claims to be from us; it's not. Even if the email comes from *@gay-torrents.org, this can be spoofed.

If we suspect your account has been phished or hacked, we may reset your password or disable your account to prevent the hacker from misusing it. In this case, you should contact us through email (info@gay-torrents.org).
If your account is compromised, it will be disabled and we will not be able to re-enable it for you.
